Reading Disc 2 contains Lessons 41 through 120.

Funnix 2 presents 100 carefully sequenced CD reading lessons. The program contains 2 CDs, a textbook (reader) and a Parent Manual. One CD contains Lessons 1-100 and the Parent Guide. The Placement and Review CD contains review lessons - Lessons 101-120 of Funnix Beginning Reading - and Transition Exercises that teach Funnix Reading Conventions.

A Funnix Teacher's Guide describing how to use Funnix reading programs in a school setting is included with purchases made by schools.

Intensive phonics instruction
Funnix Beginning Reading and Funnix 2 is the most powerful beginning reading sequence available. Funnix reading programs were adapted from the very successful Direct Instruction program for teaching phonics published by SRA entitled Horizons. Funnix programs provide intensive phonics instruction using a computer reading format.

Teach children to read using FUN reading activities
The last part of each lesson involves workbook-type activities. In Funnix Beginning Reading the workbook activities include beginning spelling and items that build comprehension for story reading. Some workbook activities are presented on the screen. For others, the narrator gives the child information orally. As the child's skills increase, the workbook activities become more complicated and require less structure.

In Funnix 2 children write answers to workbook- type activities on lined paper. The activities are presented on the screen. Story Comprehension items are the first activity. The other activities give practice in writing words for pictures, matching words with statements following written directions or matching words with pictures.

Teachers or tutors must operate the mouse during lessons so they can direct the program in a way that corrects reading problems.

Learning reading skills in Funnix requires that the child already have some alphabet skills. Test children for readiness using the Alphabet Game.

To place children who have some reading skills go to Testing and Placement.

Fluency and comprehension activities
Funnix promotes fluency throughout the sequence by directing children to reread lists of sounds, lists of words and stories. Funnix also promotes fluency by gradually and systematically adjusting the audio and visual prompts that signal responses.

Comprehension activities are presented in connection with story reading throughout the Funnix sequence. Before children have learned to read stories, Funnix Beginning Reading presents stories orally, and asks comprehension questions. After children begin reading stories through the end of the Funnix sequence, children answer orally presented comprehension questions during the second reading of the story. At the end of Funnix Beginning Reading and throughout Funnix 2 children read and write answers to story questions and other comprehension activities.

Teaches strategies for reading multisyllabic words and sophisticated text
After children master sounding out regular words and gain automaticity in decoding whole words Funnix begins teaching children to apply a sounding-out strategy to reading more complex words. Children learn and apply strategies that focus on the spelling of words and that focus on familiar word parts.

Children learn strategies for reading connected text that contains sophisticated punctuation marks (quotes, exclamations, and ellipses) expressively.

Funnix in School or at Home
Funnix reading programs can be used in schools as the primary reading program, as an intervention program, as a supplement, or as a Summer School or After-School program. Funnix programs can be used with precocious preschool children, average kindergarten, first and second grade children and children who are behind or have learning disabilities (such as "dyslexia") in second, third and even fourth grades. Funnix can be used in small groups, or as a tutorial with a regular tutor, or in a peer-tutoring setting, or as a reinforcer in a paired practice setting.

Teach your child to read - Success guaranteed
Funnix teaches all of the reading skills children need for learning phonics and learning to read proficiently. Unlike other reading programs, the Direct Instruction method behind Funnix has data supporting its effectiveness in schools and in the home schooling environment. No matter how you spell it, Funnics, Phunics or Funux, Funnix is fun and the most certain recipe available for ensuring your child's reading success.
